President Pranab Mukherjee to be in his native village during Durga pujas

The President Pranab Mukherjee will be in his native village of Miriti during the Puja days.

KOLKATA: The President Pranab Mukherjee will be in his native village of Miriti during the Puja days. He will arrive Kolkata on Saturday along with his 60-member team which include physicians, security staff and officials from Rashtrapati Bhavan.

Mukherjee will go straight to his Miriti village in Kirnahar under Birbhum district and stay there till October 23.

An elaborate security arrangements have been made in Miriti in view of the President's visit. Mukherjee's ancestral home has been cordoned off by state police officials.

The entire house is now under the control of the security persons. A senior state police official said on Friday that about 1500 policemen have been deployed to make full-proof security in and around Mukherjee's home. He also said that the Birbhum district administration have asked the local hotels and guest houses in the area to keep most of their rooms reserved for the members of the President's team. Mukherjee will leave Kolkata on October 23.
