NEW DELHI: President PranabMukherjee today expressed his grief over the loss of lives in the submarine explosion off Mumbai coast.

In his message to Naval Chief Admiral D K Joshi, the President said "I am saddened to learn about the loss of lives of Indian Navy personnel in the tragic incident involving the INS Sindhurakshak submarine which caught fire after a massive explosion and sank in the dockyard in Mumbai.

"I am sure that the Defence Ministry and the Maharashtra government are providing all possible help to the bereaved families who have lost their near and dear ones."

While offering prayers for the victims, the President, who is also the Supreme Commander of the armed forces, said "I pray to the Almighty to give strength and courage to the families to bear this irreparable loss."
