President poll: ICITP opposes PA Sangma

GUWAHATI: Indian Confederation of Indigenous and Tribal Peoples ( ICITP) which represents 310 Adivasi organizations has opposed the candidature of P.A Sangma for the post of President of India.

According to ICITP Sangma do not enjoy the support of many of the Adivasi organisations of the country. The body had projected Meghalaya Governor, R.S. Mooshahary as the presidential candidate.

The organization claimed it has raised the issue of Adivasi President on the basis of social justice and not on mere political interest. "We are also not happy over Pranab Mukherjee or P.A. Sangma as candidates for the 13th President of India. Therefore, we feel that the sentiment of 100 million Adivasis of India is once again ignored by the political parties of country.
