President for joint efforts against terror

The President stated that India was committed to promote peace and properity in the world and stressed on the need for the international community to unitedly combat terrorism.

NEW DELHI: President Pratibha Patil on Wednesday called for joint efforts by global community in combating terrorism and said India stood for friendly relations with all countries which included enhancing trade ties and prople-to-people contact.

She said this during an interaction with diplomats at the credential presentation function held at Rashtrapati Bhavan in which eight envoys including French Ambassador Jerome Bonnafont and High Commissioner of the UK Charles Richard Vernon presented their credentials to the President, a Rashtrapati Bhavan spokesperson said.

The President stated that India was committed to promote peace and properity in the world and stressed on the need for the international community to unitedly combat terrorism, the spokesperson said.

"India seeks friendly relations with all countries and would work towards further strenthening ties by increasing trade and investment, as well as through enhanced people-to- people contacts, students and cultural exchange," the President said.

Among other envoys who presented their credentials were Ambassadors of Luxembourg, Norway, Cuba, Belgium, European Commission and Lativa Marc Courte, Ann Ollestad, Miguel Angel Ramirez Ramos, Jean-Marie Deboutte, Daniele Smadja and Hardijs Baumanis respectively.

The ceremony was attened by senior members of the diplomatic missions and senior officials of External Affairs Ministry, the spokesperson said.
