KOLKATA: A ride from North Bengal to Kolkata is all set to get smoother as the North Bengal State Transport Corporation (NBSTC) is all set to introduce premium rocket buses with bio-toilets for the route.

These buses that would ply between various locations in North Bengal to Kolkata would ensure better connectivity at a much lesser than the present facilities available. The new Rocket buses will soon take over the roads while the old ones gradually phase out.

These buses have been bought at a cost of Rs 1.98 crore. The transport corporation will be introducing seven such buses between April 2017 and March next year. The first fleet is flagged off by chief minister Mamata Banerjee in her visit to North Bengal next week.

E-ticketing system and online reservation options for these buses too will be available soon.

Out of the seven buses, three will be operating between Cooch Behar and Kolkata, two from Malda to Kolkata and the remaining two will be plying between Behrampore and Cooch Behar.
