GUWAHATI: Assam police has denied permission to Antarashtriya Hindu Parishad (AHP) president Pravin Togadia to hold a meeting in Guwahati on July 18.

Guwahati police has cited law and order situation as the reason for denial of permission to Togadia.

A senior police officer told ET, "The meeting which Togadia is likely to address is not being given permission. Section 144 of the CrPC is currently in force in three police districts under Guwahati police commissionerate."

Robin Bhuyan, general secretary of the state unit of AHP, criticized the BJP-led government in Assam for denial of permission.

AHP is a new organisation formed by supporters of Togadia. Secretary of the Assam Pradesh unit of the AHP Jnanendra Barman said, "We were asked by the administration not to bring Togadia to our scheduled programme."

The organisation, however, stated that Togadia will come to the programme and will also visit Shaktipeeth of Kamakhya temple.
