GUWAHATI: Police in Assam have barred Antarashtriya Hindu Parishad (AHP) president Pravin Togadia from making speeches in the state saying his inflammatory speeches would "hurt the sentiments of the religious minority community".

The order from the Guwahati police commissioner Hiren Nath on Tuesday said Togadia would not be permitted to address gatherings or hold press conferences for a period of two months without appropriate permission.Togadia is scheduled to visit Guwahati from July 17 to 20.

"..It has also been reported that such inflammatory speeches will hurt the sentiment of religious minority community and create a deep rooted sense of insecurity among them which is very likely to disturb public peace and order,” the statement said.

Nath said the decision was in view of the situation ahead of the final publication of the National register of Citizens on July 30.
