MUMBAI: Pravin Mahajan had threatened his brother Pramod when the late BJP leader refused to meet his demand of Rs 1 crore a few days before he shot him last year, Pramod’s wife Rekha, a key witness in the murder case, told a court on Tuesday. Rekha told a sessions court conducting the trial in the Pramod Mahajan murder case that a few days before the incident on April 22, 2006, Pravin had come to their Worli residence and demanded Rs 1 core from his elder brother.

According to Rekha, Pramod tried to convince him that he did not have that much money. However, Pravin got angry and after threatening the BJP leader that he would suffer the consequences, left the house. Rekha was being cross-examined by defence counsel Harshad Ponda when she stated that after firing shots at Pramod, Pravin pushed her back when she was trying to turn him out of the house.

She added that Pravin had told Pramod while being pushed out, “You did not listen to what I said, so now bear the consequences.” Taking cue from the statement made by Rekha, special public prosecutor Ujjwal Nikam further probed her if she knew why Pravin had made that statement after firing at Pramod. Rekha then told the court that a few days prior to the incident, Pravin had come to their South Mumbai house and demanded the money from Pramod.
