GUWAHATI: Vishwa Hindu Parishad leader Praveen Togadia was not allowed to address a VHP meeting here today nor a recording of his speech played over microphone as the police clamped Section 144 CrPC.

Guwahati Police Commissioner Jyotirmoy Chakraborty ordered imposition of the prohibitory order and directed Togadia not to attend or address the VHP meeting in the city.

Togadia, however, visited the VHP office at Ulubari area of the city and Kamakhya temple, Chakraborty told PTI.

Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi speaking to the media on the sidelines of a meeting said Togadia would not be allowed to create a situation in the state.

VHP Assam unit's 'prachar pramukh' S D Sinha said that Togadia was banned from addressing the Hindu Sanmilan fearing there would be a law and order situation.

"Many people coming in buses from far off places to attend the meeting were turned back by police from entering the city."
