Praveen Sood appointed as chief of Karnataka police

The Karnataka government, on Friday, appointed senior IPS officer Praveen Sood as the Director General and Inspector General of Police. His appointment as the state police chief came following the retirement of N Neelmani Raju. Sood was serving as the DG of CID’s Economic Offences and Special Units Wing.

Sood is lauded for taking initiatives to improve investigation and create awareness to prevent cyber crime in the IT city. It was during his tenure, the CID collaborated with Infosys Foundation to establish state-of-art “Centre for Cyber Crime Investigation, Training and Research” to augment the capacity to investigate ever increasing cyber crime cases.

An alumnus of IIT Delhi, Sood has previously served as the commissioner of police, Bengaluru. As the tech-savvy city police chief, he had launched some flagship programmes including “Namma 100” an emergency response system for citizens in distress. He had then promised that every emergency call will be picked up in 15 seconds and the police team will visit the scene of distress in 15 minutes, a promise that was achieved to some extent.
