Pramod Mahajan's brother, brother-in-law to slug it out in Aurangabad

The July 15 legislative council election in Maharashtra will see two close relatives of the slain BJP veteran Pramod Mahajan pitted against each other.

MUMBAI: The July 15 legislative council election in Maharashtra will see two close relatives of the slain BJP veteran Pramod Mahajan pitted against each other. Pramods elder brother Prakash will challenge his brother-in-law, Gopinath Munde. Prakash may contest Mr Mundes stronghold the Aurangabad graduate constituency.BJPs Srikant Joshi, the incumbent member of legislative council, is a staunch Munde loyalist and the saffron party is likely to field him this time too. Mr Joshis term ends on July 15.

Its a delicate situation. The partys local leadership may find it difficult to campaign against Mr Mahajan. After all he is Pramod Mahajans brother, a Marathwada BJP leader said. He admitted it will be equally difficult not to canvass for Mr Joshi as he would be the partys official nominee, blessed by Mr Munde. Prakash, who is an equally powerful orator like his younger brother, is gearing up to face his first political battle. Prakash was attracted towards Raj Thackeray and MNS even when Pramod was alive. Raj made him vice-president of the nascent MNS.
On Thursday, the Amravati Division Teachers constituency which goes to polls on July 15 saw eight more candidates, including sitting MLC Vasantrao Khotare, filing their papers.
