Prakash Javadekar meets PM Modi, climate change discussed

NEW DELHI: Environment Minister Prakash Javadekar today met Prime Minister Narendra Modi and is understood to have discussed India's key issues related to climate change ahead of the crucial UN meet in Paris later this year.

Sources said that it was an informal meeting to discuss climate change and it is believed that deliberations were also held on Intended Nationally Determined Contributions (INDCs) which India is yet to submit to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change.

Apart from Javadekar, Union Environment Secretary Ashok Lavasa was also present in the meeting.

Javadekar is going to address a press conference next week on India's roadmap to curb carbon emissions. Most of the states have already submitted their INDCs and the Ministry is in the process of finalising it.

Every country in the world is either in the process or have submitted their INDCs in the run up to the Paris climate change conference which will pave the way for a global climate pact.

Countries like China, the US, and the European Union amongst others have have already made public their INDCs.
