In yet another setback to BJP, turncoat BJP leader Prabir Ghoshal, who had joined BJP before election along with Rajib Banerjee, is disillusioned with BJP and set to rejoin Trinamool Congress.

Large scale defection is already a cause of worry for BJP Bengal unit after it suffered a poll debacle during the assembly polls results, with 5 MLAs rejoining Trinamool Congress. Ghoshal said he is not mentally associated with BJP anymore. Ghoshal, in an explosive article in AITC's mouthpiece, also wrote why no one can be associated with BJP. Ghoshal was a former Uttarpara MLA but got defeated in assembly polls.

Ghosal had joined BJP before the polls along with Rajib Banerjee, Baishali Dalmiya, Rudraneel Ghosh amid much fanfare and was flown in chartered flight to New Delhi with other defected Trinamool MLAs.

Prabir Ghoshal, who was a candidate in Uttarpara for BJP, was defeated by Trinamool candidate Kanchan Mullick. Ghoshal had won the same seat with Trinamool ticket in 2016.

Asked about his post-editorial in Trinamool mouthpiece, which ignited speculations about his leaving BJP, Ghoshal said on Wednesday, “I am not mentally associated with BJP anymore. Nobody can work for the BJP. I was made a member of the state committee before the polls. However, after the polls, I hardly had any contact with them. I was called to the meetings once or twice. Neither did any state leader keep contact with me.”

On the contrary, after his mother’s death Trinamool Supremo contacted him, Ghoshal said, adding that he has a family connection with Mamata Banerjee. “I have a family relation with Mamata Banerjee and she called me when my mother passed away but none from BJP leaders contacted me,” Ghoshal said.

Asked if he was considering rejoining Trinamool, Ghoshal, a journalist-turned politician, said, “I am now busy with writing articles and doing social work. I haven't thought of rejoining AITC yet.”
