Power Grid provides Rs 2.5 cr for Uttarakhand flood victims

In a statement, Power Grid Corp said it has extended "a financial assistance of Rs 2.5 crore towards Prime Minister's Relief Fund for mitigating the sufferings of the flood victims of Uttarakhand".
The death toll due to the floods has already touched about 190 while thousands of people are still stranded in different parts of the state.
Yesterday, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh had appealed to the public for generous donations to support the victims who have suffered "extensive devastation".
In his appeal, Singh had said the central government is extending all cooperation and assistance to the state government in rescue and relief operations.
"At this moment, affected people need our help to tide over the calamity that has fallen upon them, to survive and to rebuild their lives. I request all citizens of India to stand with our distressed fellow countrymen, and actively participate in the national effort to support them at this difficult time," the Prime Minister had said in his appeal.
Meanwhile, Power Grid earlier also had extended assistance during natural calamities such as tsunami and earthquake.
