Post trust vote, MPCC awaits organisational overhaul

The Maharashtra Pradesh Congress Committee is awaiting a complete overhaul, ready to capitalise on the positivities of the trust vote victory by UPA govt.

MUMBAI: The Maharashtra Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC),which has been handicapped for last few years due to factional feud and organisational disarray, is awaiting a complete overhaul, ready to capitalise on the positivities of the trust vote victory by UPA government in Lok Sabha .

"Time is short and we have too many hurdles and odds to overcome as the Lok Sabha elections are about six months away. As far as the assembly elections are concerned, we have about a year to prepare," party's state unit spokesman Anant Gadgil said.

He said that the need of the hour is to appoint the state unit president immediately and begin the process of galvanising the grassroot cadre by organising training camps and public rallies across Maharashtra.

Admitting that the Indo-US civilian nuclear deal has found support among the large chunk of the electorate, he felt that urgent steps need to be taken to ensure that the public mood generated after trust vote for the Congress does not end prematurely.

However, he was apprehensive about how the support generated for the civilian deal, among the educated middle class, will be converted into votes.

"Many of them who support the BJP did not like the party opposing the nuke deal just for the sake of it. But the point is how many of them actually come out to vote for the Congress," he asked.

Replying to a question on the party's alliance with Samajwadi Party, Gadgil said Congress has to tie-up with all "like minded parties" in the state in order to prevent division of Shiv Sena-BJP votes.
