Opposition leader Suvendu Adhikari on Friday claimed that post-poll violence continues in West Bengal even now and that “the NHRC’s report on it "is just the tip of the iceberg”.

“The NHRC report is the tip of the iceberg and it is a point of discussion across the country. Altogether 6,500 complaints have been lodged, and NHRC could speak and analyse around 2,000 complaints. Just imagine the whole scenario. BJP workers are attacked every day and even today,”Adhikari said.

The state BJP has alleged that 29 BJP workers were murdered after the assembly election in which Mamata Banerjee's Trinamool Congress scored a resounding victory against BJP and Left rivals.

Adhikari said the Bengal administration was not even following the high court's directions to convert complaints into FIRs and to provide ration and medical help to the victims.

“Nothing has been followed in accordance with the court, And every day, we are getting new reports of post-poll violence,” he alleged.

Except in Bengal, there was no post-poll violence in the other states - Assam, Tamil Nadu or Kerala - which went to polls simultaneously.

BJP chief spokesperson Shamik Bhattacharya alleged there was lawlessness in Bengal and that several MLAs and councillors were named in the NHRC report.

“It is unfortunate that in a state like West Bengal democracy is on the backfoot,” he said.
