Guwahati: Post April 20, Assam government is contemplating of opening one day window for intra district movement of stranded people.

Assam health minister, Himanta Biswa Sarma said, “Post April 20, government may consider for a day movement of people from one districts to another. Students from KarbiAnglong are stuck up in Guwahati following the lockdown.”

Assam has set up call center to prepare a list of people stranded outside the state. Already the call center has received over 5 lakh calls. The government is planning to offer financial assistance to these people.


Assam has reported 35 cases of COVID-19 positive, except one all the persons are related to Nizamuddin Markaz. One of COVID patients has died. Around nine people are cured and released from hospital.

Sarma said, “Two positive cases were reported in Morigoan on Thursday, one of the people is the head of Tablighi Jamaat in the state.”

The health minister had earlier tweeted, “Contract history of DC/SP of Morigaon with the now turned positive person is more than 14 days old. As per protocol, their test samples are being collected today result of which would be known by this evening. Request my friends in Media not to speculate.”

Sarma said that government of India has got 3.5 lakh rapid testing kit from China. “Assam is expecting to get some from these; we have also placed an order of one lakh kit which is expected to be delivered by end of this month. The whole world is buying from China so we are waiting for our turn.”
