Two senior DMK leaders, both advocates, quietly stepped down from the board of Tata Communications as independent members last week following Kanimozhi’s arrest in the 2G case.

CHENNAI: Two senior DMK leaders, both advocates, quietly stepped down from the board of Tata Communications as independent members last week following Kanimozhi’s arrest in the 2G case.

P V Kalyanasundaram and V R S Sampath were nominated to the board by the telecom ministry in 2005 during the earlier UPA regime when Dayanidhi Maran was telecom minister.

“I was requested by the telecommunications joint secretary to tender my resignation as board member in March-end ,” Kalyanasundaram , DMK’s organising secretary , told TOI. Sampath, who is an editor of a law journal published in Chennai, also resigned around the same time.

Sources in Tata Communications said the announcement about their resignations had been issued in the BSE and the NYSE on May 21.
