Positive impact of MGNREGS on agriculture productivity
MGNREGS demonstrated positive impact on agriculture productivity and helped in checking out-migration.
Due to renovation of ponds and use of canals, crop yield have improved, Minister of State for Rural Development Pradeep Jain Aditya said in the Rajya Sabha.
In a written reply, he said the scheme has also led to increase in forest area as reported in some districts covered under a study like Chitradurga, Kalahandi, Lalitpur, West Midnapore and Bankura.
The study also revealed substantial increase in market wage rates of agricultural and non-agricultural labourers and decline in incidence of out-migration, he said.
MGNREGS provides for a legal guarantee for up to 100 days of wage employment to every rural household in every financial year for doing unskilled manual work.
Work permissible under the scheme include water conservation and water harvesting, drought proofing and tree plantation, flood control, micro and minor irrigation work, land development etc
