Portuguese govt has expressed its desire to start chartered flights to Goa, an erstwhile Portuguese colony that shares close cultural ties with the country.

PANAJI: The Portuguese government has expressed its desire to start chartered flights to Goa, an erstwhile Portuguese colony that shares close cultural ties with the country.

A delegation of the Portuguese government led by its Foreign Minister Luis Amado recently met state Home Minister Ravi Naik and others and informed them of their desire to launch the flights.

It has also shown willingness to open an office of Portuguese tourism in Panaji.

State government officials said the meeting discussed ways to enhance relations between the two countries.

The Portuguese government has also shown an interest in repair and maintenance of monuments and old mansions which can be converted into "porsades" (rest houses) for visitors to the state.
