Poor couple seeks govt nod to donate disabled son’s organs

A poor couple has petitioned TN govt to take away vital organs of their son.

COIMBATORE: In an act of sheer desperation, a poor couple has petitioned the Tamil Nadu government to immediately take away the vital organs of Naveen Kumar with his mother. their only son, who is alive but afflicted with multiple disabilities, and transplant them on a needy patient.

The young couple from Periyaputhur village near Coimbatore, in effect, want the government to allow mercy killing of their five-year-old boy, Naveen Kumar, who is mentally challenged, aurally and visually impaired and immobile.

Carrying little Naveen Kumar in her arms, the wistful mother Kavitha and father, Rajaram Billashetty, came to the Coimbatore district collectorate on Monday with a startling plea. Doctors have ruled out any possibility of improvement in our sons condition. So, please allow us to donate his organs, they pleaded with the officials.

Obviously, the recent media spotlight on parents offering organs of their children who were brain-dead in accidents, has spurred the weaver couple too to offer their son for multiple organ donation.
