MATHURA: Use of polythene bags and plastic goods has been banned in temple towns-Mathura and Vrindavan, district authorities said here today.

Legal action would be taken against sellers and buyers of the banned goods with immediate affect, District Magistrate Rajesh Kumar said today.

Following an Allahabad High Court order in 2012 and a notification issued by Ministry of Environment and Forest in 2011, the district authorities decided to ban carry bags made of polythene, plastic glasses, bowls, pouches and plates, he said.

A drive to check use of the banned articles would start very shortly in both the districts, the DM added.
