Poll mood building up in Tripura, Congress is likely to contest 49 seats

GUWAHATI: Poll mood is picking up in the Northeastern state of Tripura. While opposition congress is likely to contest 49 seats in the 60-member House, Nationalist Party of Tripura (INPT) will contest 11 seats in the February 14 assembly polls. Congress has declared candidate for 48 seats.

Total number of electorate has increased from 22, 77,415 to 23, 52,505, according to the final photo electoral rolls.

Chief Electoral Officer ( CEO) Ashutosh Jindal said that 46,259 names were deleted from the rolls in course of the revision of photo electoral rolls. The number of male voters stands at 11, 97,849 while female electorate is 11, 54,656.

The ruling Left Front has declared its candidates for 59 constituencies. Seven sitting MLAs have been dropped .The CPM will contest 55 while RSP and CPI have been given two seats each, leaving only one seat to be fought by Forward Bloc.

Tripura BJP state committee has expressed displeasure on the poll date as the election date clashed with Saraswati Puja, a Hindu festival, which falls on February 15.
