Protests have erupted across Assam nearly a month after singer Zubeen Garg's mysterious death in Singapore on September 19, with demands for a speedy investigation. Clashes broke out in Baksa district on Wednesday as police attempted to transfer five accused to the local jail. The state has imposed prohibitory orders and suspended mobile internet amid rising tensions.

Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma accused certain groups of "politicising" the death ahead of the 2026 elections. Meanwhile, the BJP will launch a statewide campaign, "Moiu Zubeen, Amiu Zubeen" (I am also Zubeen, We are also Zubeen), from October 23 to demand a fast-track probe and celebrate the singer's legacy.

Plans include installing Zubeen's statues, setting up music schools named after Zubeen and Bhupen Hazarika in BJP-held constituencies, and planting Nahor saplings - his favourite tree.

Rahul Gandhi visited Guwahati on Friday to meet Garg's family and urged the government to swiftly conclude the probe. Assam goes to polls next year.
