GUWAHATI: Tripura police has initiated probe to trace the person who issued fatwa against CM Manik Sarkar on social media.

On Facebook, a person by the name of Ria Roy claiming herself as an activist of the World Anti-Communist Council, issued a degree that a cash reward of Rs 5.5 lakh would be given to anyone who is able to “chop off the head of chief minister Manik Sarkar.”

A senior police official told ET, “A case has been registered in West Agartala police station. We have taken the case suo motu under relevant provisions of Indian Penal Code and Information Technology Act. Assistance will be taken of cyber experts.”
