MUMBAI: The Aurangabad police registered a case against Shiv Sena’s Lok Sabha member Chandrakant Khaire after he was caught on camera allegedly “manhandling and abusing” a tehsildar for daring to demolish an illegal temple.

Khaire, who represents Maharashtra’s Aurangabad constituency in Lok Sabha, allegedly confronted the tehsildar Ramesh Mundlod after the latter demolished an illegally constructed temple. In the video Khaire threatens Mundlod and calls him the “progeny of Aurangzeb”.

After the video went viral the four-time MP justified the assault claiming that he had acted with an intention to soothe tempers among the local people who would have otherwise lynched the tehsildar.

Following the incident, employees of revenue gazetted organisation, tehsildar organisation, district revenue employees’ organisations and others related to revenue department held a demonstration demanding a case be registered against the MP.

On November 2, the police registered a case against the MP for allegedly beating up and obstructing a government servant from performing his duty.
