Cyberabad Police today launched a probe into causes of an explosion at the premises of the Gulf Oil Corporation Ltd (Explosives Division) at Kukatpally.

HYDERABAD: Cyberabad Police today launched a probe into causes of an explosion at the premises of the Gulf Oil Corporation Ltd (Explosives Division) at Kukatpally here in which two persons were killed even as the condition of four workers continues to be serious.

"We have registered a case on charge of 304 A (causing death by negligence), 337 and 338 (causing hurt by act endangering life or personal safety of others) of IPC against the company management and began investigation to know the probable cause into the blast incident," Deputy Commissioner of Police (Madhapur Zone) Kartikeya told PTI.

The explosion and subsequent fire occurred yesterday when some detonators were being disposed of at the premises of the Gulf Oil Corporation Ltd (Explosives Division) in which two workers were killed and 13 others suffered burn injuries.

"Police will again visit the explosion site. It is a technical aspect and we are waiting for reports from scientific observers and petroleum experts," the DCP said, adding that all those responsible for the negligence leading to the death and injuries to workers will be questioned as part of the probe.

"The condition of four out of the 13 people undergoing treatment at different hospitals is serious," another police officer said.

Telangana Home Minister Nayani Narasimha Reddy, who yesterday visited the explosion site and held talks with the company management, had announced that the company agreed to pay Rs 15 lakh to each of the family members of deceased.
