GUWAHATI: With Assam all set to publish a draft of updated National Register of Citizens ( NRC) 1951 next month, Assam Director General of Police Mukesh Sahay assured that the state police is fully geared up to maintain law and order.

There are apprehensions that there might be law and order problems in the run-up to the release of the Supreme Court-monitored NRC draft.

Sahay said police is monitoring social media posts and that security of NRC Seva Kendras (assistance Centre) are being reviewed. Fullproof security will be provided to these Kendras, he added.

Sahay said, "Police will counter the misinformation campaign pertaining to NRC. Genuine Indian citizen have nothing to worry about. Government will soon unleash a massive awareness campaign pertaining to NRC.”

The DGP said, "Details of security requirement are being worked out and we will approach Centre for support. Recently we had a meeting of the unified command and all security forces were sensitised about the NRC issue. Intelligence gathering is working and we will ensure that there will be fixed security pickets and quick response team is deployed. We have categorise sensitive areas and accordingly measures will be taken."
