Police busted hawala racket, three arrested
Police have busted a hawala racket and seized Rs 30 lakh of unaccounted cash by arresting three persons including a director of a courier service.
Acting on a tip-off, the local crime branch yesterday busted the racket being operated under the guise of courier service from Jawahar Chowk in Jumerati area, police said on Sunday.
Police seized Rs 30 lakh cash, a currency counting machine and 13 mobile phones from their possession. The arrested persons were identified as Vijay Raisinghani, Harish and Kamlesh, police said.
During interrogation they revealed that their company's office has an all India network and they used to transfer buinessmen's money from one place to other on commission basis through hawala by providing code numbers, police said.
They are not revealing about the owner of the seized money and to whom they were about to send it, police said, adding further probe is on and Income Tax authorities were informed about the seizure.
