Poisonous gas leaks in Dhanbad coal mines, workers rescued

Altogether 191 miners were inside the mines when the incident occurred at Jeetpur colliery, around 35 kms away from Dhanbad, last evening.

DHANBAD: Over 190 miners were rescued safely after a poisonous gas leaked in the underground coal mines of Dhandbad district, officials said on Wednesday.

Altogether 191 miners were inside the mines when the incident occurred at Jeetpur colliery, around 35 kms away from Dhanbad, last evening, they said.

"It was a minor problem. The gas leakage has been sealed timely and miners are safe now," KLS Rao, general manager of the colliery, a subsidiary unit of the Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL), said.

Rao, along with officials and rescue team, entered the mines and sealed the leakage.

A probe is on in the incident.
