PMT scam: MPPEB cracks whip on 200 students

BHOPAL: Rattled by the allegations of Pre-Medical Test scam under its watch, the Professional Examination Board (MPPEB) has decided to cancel candidature of 200 students, who have appeared for PMTs since 2012, for allegedly using unfair means to clear the exams.

The action to nullify the specific PMTs these students had appeared for is likely to be taken by next week, sources said, adding, the MPPEB had asked for a list of these students from the Special Task Force (STF) of state police who is handling the investigations into the alleged scam.

Around 100 out of these 200 students had completed PMT counselling and have gained admissions in various private and government medical colleges.

A committee of experts had found 701 students, who appeared for 2012 PMT, as suspects on the basis of a "mismatch" report and pointed out that 350 students among them had in fact got their sitting arrangement changed during the conduct of PMT.

STF said that alleged scamsters Tarang Sharma and Santosh Gupta have confessed to having taken Rs 30 lakh each from five job aspirants to help them clear the MPPEB exam for Milk Federation.

The duo allegedly worked in collusion with MPPEB's Principal System Consultant Nitin Mahindra who is in jail, according to STF.

Opposition Congress had been demanding a CBI probe into the "scam".
