PMK to lead alternative front in Tamil Nadu for the next Assembly poll

SALEM: PMK, an NDA partner in Tamil Nadu, today projected MP and former Union minister Anbumani Ramadoss as its chief ministerial candidate for the 2016 Assembly elections as the party decided to form an alternative front to free the state from the "clutches of Dravidian parties".

A unanimous resolution adopted at a special general council meeting of the party here said Anbumani "is the only person to take Tamil Nadu on the development path", it said.

Though there were expectations that PMK, which has been highly critical of several schemes of the Narendra Modi government, might severe its ties with NDA in the backdrop of Vaiko-led MDMK quitting it recently, there was no mention of it in the resolution.

The party also decided to form an alternative front along with those who wanted to save Tamil Nadu from the "clutches of Dravidian parties", which were ruling the state in turns.

Anbumani thanked party workers and PMK's convenor Dr S Ramadoss for giving him the opportunity (to lead the front) and said he will take the responsibility of developing the state.

He expressed confidence over PMK winning the Assembly polls just as Aam Aadmi Party did in Delhi polls.
