PMK hails PM's decision on disinvestment issue

CHENNAI: PMK, a constituent of the ruling UPA at the Centre, on Friday said the Government should be firm in its stand that it will not disinvest in profit making PSUs.
Welcoming Prime Minister Manmohan Singh's decision to put on hold all disinvestments in the PSUs, PMK founder Dr S Ramadoss said that when the Centre decided to divest 10 per cent equity in the NLC, he had pointed out that disinvestment in profit making PSUs was against the UPA's Common Minimum Programme.
All trade unions and several political parties had also opposed the Centre's decision, he said in a statement.
Chief Minister M Karunanidhi made a lot of efforts on the issue, following which the Prime Minister had put on hold all disinvestments, he said.
In future, the Centre should not take any decision to disinvest in profit making PSUs, he said.
