PMANE slams AEC chairman Srikumar Banerjee's remark, threatens to lay seige to plant

PMANE slammed Srikumar Banerjee's reported remark that it would be commissioned and threatened to lay siege there if it was done against the people's wishes.

CHENNAI: People's Movement for Nuclear Energy, leading the protest against Koodankulam Nuclear Power Plant, today slammed AEC Chairman Srikumar Banerjee's reported remark that it would be commissioned and threatened to lay siege there if it was done against the people's wishes.

"We strongly condemn the comments of Srikumar Banerjee. If the plant is commissioned against the interests of Tamils, PMANE, along with thousands of people, we will lay a siege in front of the plant," S P Udayakumar, PMANE convenor, told reporters here.

The Atomic Energy Commission Chairman, who also holds the post of Secretary, Department of Atomic Energy, had reportedly stated that KNPP would be commissioned in six weeks.
