PM undergoes surgery at AIIMS

Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Saturday underwent a surgery for benign enlargement of the prostate gland at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences.

NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Saturday underwent a surgery for benign enlargement of the prostate gland at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences.

"The procedure was performed to treat benign prostatic hypertrophy of the prostate (benign enlargement of the prostate gland)," Prime Minister's Media Adviser Sanjaya Baru said.

"The Prime Minister is convalescing after the surgery and has had a stable post operative course," he said.

Singh, 75, was admitted to AIIMS at 6 a.m. and the surgery lasted till 9 am.
