Prime Minister Manmohan Singh will inaugurate the Delhi Sustainable Development Summit 2008 here on Thursday.

NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Manmohan Singh will inaugurate the Delhi Sustainable Development Summit (DSDS) 2008 here on Thursday.

The main theme of the three-day summit is sustainable development and climate change.

Iceland President Olafur Ragnar Grimsson, Maldives President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom, Denmark Prime Minister Anders Fogh Rasmussen, Norway Prime Minister Jens Stolenberg and Finland Prime Minister Matti Vanhanen are expected to address the conference.

The leaders will discuss climate change in a situation where greenhouse gas emissions into the atmosphere are already affecting agricultural output, increasing frequency and damage caused by droughts, floods and storms and raising sea levels across the world.

An exhibition on International Climate change will also be inaugurated by Denmark Prime Minister Anders Fogh Rasmussen.

Hosted by The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI), DSDS will be the first major international meet on climate change after the UN summit in Bali, Indonesia, last December.
