PM should be brought within Lokpal's ambit: Nitish

PATNA: Demanding that the Prime Minister be brought within Lokpal's ambit, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Monday said his government would bring suitable amendment to a legislation for an effective and strong Lokayukta in Bihar.

"Excepting some important issues of concerns, the Prime Minister (should) be brought within the ambit of Lokpal," Kumar said here.

"(People) are fed up with corruption and thus we have decided to take a step further for making the institution of Lokayukta more effective and strong," he said, apparently referring to the legislation enacted for confiscation of property of corrupt public servants, the amendment of which will include the chief minister's office as well.

The amendment is likely in the next Assembly Session. "Our government is already fighting corruption and has rather waged a war against corruption... in order to tighten the noose around corrupt public servants," Kumar said.

The chief minister said confiscating the properties have started "for opening much-needed schools".
