PM says rail coach factory to be set up in Kerala
Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Wednesday assured Kerala that a rail coach factory will be set up in the state and an announcement on it was likely in the coming budget.

NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Wednesday assured Kerala that a rail coach factory will be set up in the state and an announcement on it was likely in the coming budget, Chief Minister V S Achutanandan said.
"The PM has assured us to keep the promise of setting up of a rail coach factory in Palakkad and an announcement in this regard is likely in the coming budget," Achutanandan told reporters after meeting the Prime Minister here.
The Chief Minister, accompanied by MPs of Left Democratic Front (LDF), the ruling coalition of the state, also registered his protest on the scaling down of rice quota in the public distribution system (PDS) in the state.
"We have registered a strong protest on the Centre's cruel attitude towards Kerala in scaling down the PDS rice quota by 82 per cent," he added.
The chief minister also met Union Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar in this regard.
"I would suggest the Congress party members, including Chennitahala, to sit on a dharna in front of the Prime Minister's office rather than in Thiruvananthapuram," he said taking a dig on the Kerala PCC chief who is on a fast in the state capital on the issue of rice quota.
In the half-an-hour long meeting with the Prime Minister, the Kerala delegation also raised their demand for a High Court bench in Thiruvananthapuram and also bringing of metro rail project in Kochi.
