NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi today extended greetings to Bhutan King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck on his 35th birthday and wished him a long and healthy life.

"Greetings to the King of Bhutan, His Majesty Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck on his birthday. May he be blessed with a long & healthy life," Modi tweeted.

Jigme Khesar is the fifth and current reigning Druk Gyalpo or "Dragon King" of the Kingdom of Bhutan.

After his father Jigme Singye Wangchuck abdicated the throne in his favour, he became King on December 9, 2006.

Modi had visited Bhutan in June last year, choosing the country as his first foreign destination after he became the Prime Minister in May last year.

The Prime Minister also spoke to Nagaland Chief Minister T R Zeliang and conveyed his good wishes on his birthday.
