DAKSHINESWAR: Prime Minister Narendra Modi today visited the famous Dakshineswar Temple here and offered prayers.

He arrived at 7:55 AM at the Dakshineswar Kali Temple where Sri Ramakrishna lived and offered prayers. The Prime Minister offered floral tributes to the presiding deity of Bhavatarini, an aspect of Goddess Kali.

Trustee and Secretary of the temple Kushal Chowdhury, who received the Prime Minister, said that he prayed for strength to develop the country.

The Prime Minister also asked the temple authorities to get in touch with the PMO for upgradation of the temple, Chowdhury said.

The Prime Minister, he said, evinced personal interest in the upgradation of the temple.He also visited the room where Ramkrishna used to live in the temple complex.

During his 25-minute visit to the temple, Modi was accompanied by BJP MP and Union Minister Babul Supriyo and party state president Rahul Sinha.

Situated on the eastern bank of the Hooghly River at Dakshineswar near Kolkata, the temple is famous for its association with Ramakrishna, a mystic of 19th century Bengal.

Next he is scheduled to visit Belurmath, the global headquarters of the Ramakrishna Math and Mission.
