NEW DELHI: Attempting to soothe nerves amid the recent rhetoric in both India & Pakistan, Narendra Modi on Tuesday evening telephoned his Pakistani counterpart Nawaz Sharif to extend greetings ahead of Ramadan and hoped that there could be an atmosphere of peace and cooperative relations. Besides, Modi also telephoned Bangladesh PM Sheikh Hasina and Afghanistan President Ashraf Ghani to extend wishes for Ramadan.

The telephone call to Sharif is particularly significant amid political leaders in India talking tough on covert operations in backdrop of surgical strikes in Myanmar. Rhetoric in Pakistan have also been sharp on Modis comments in Bangladesh and Myanmar episode.
