Narendra Modi today paid tributes to freedom fighter Bhagat Singh on his 108th birth anniversary, saying he had sacrificed his life.

NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi today paid tributes to freedom fighter Bhagat Singh on his 108th birth anniversary, saying he had sacrificed his life so that the countrymen live a life of freedom and dignity.

"I bow to Shaheed Bhagat Singh on his birth anniversary. He sacrificed his life so that we can lead a life of freedom, liberty & dignity," tweeted Modi who is in the USA on an official visit.

Bhagat Singh was born on this day in 1907. He, along with two other freedom fighters, were hanged on March 23, 1931 for throwing a bomb inside the then Central Legislative Assembly to take revenge for the death of Lala Lajpat Rai during a protest.
