PM Narendra Modi lauds unorganised sector workers of Gujarat

VARANASI/NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi today lauded the unorganised sector workers of Gujarat, saying the state had "zero-manday loss" which was one of the reasons for receiving substantial amount of foreign investment.

On a visit to Varanasi, Modi addressed the sector workers at 20 locations across Gujarat through video-conferencing, as part of 'Shramyogi Kalyan Mela' of the state government.

Praising the unorganised workers, Modi said Gujarat had zero-manday loss as all stakeholders followed the Gandhian spirit of working as a family. This, he added, is one of the reasons that the state was receiving large amounts of foreign investment.

An official statement released in New Delhi said that as part of the activities for 'Good Governance Day', the Gujarat government launched several welfare schemes for unorganised sector workers.

These schemes draw inspiration from the "Shramev Jayate" vision of the Union government, the statement added.

Among the initiatives is 'U-WIN' - Unorganised Sector Identification Number, which will enable unorganised sector workers to avail the benefits of several government schemes.

The Prime Minister congratulated the Gujarat government for these initiatives, and said other states could also emulate these.

He also congratulated the state government for launching Rural Labour Commissionerates and Rural Labour Welfare Boards.
