NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi today called up his Japanese counterpart Shinzo Abe to greet him on his resounding electoral victory and expressed confidence that his new term will be good for India, the region and the world.
During the telephonic call, Modi said the election result reflected the strong confidence that the people of Japan had in Prime Minister Abe's leadership and economic policies, a PMO statement said.

He expressed confidence that Abe's strong mandate will impart new momentum into the Japanese economy and that his new term will also be good for India, the region and the world, the statement said.

Abe thanked Modi for the telephone call and warmly recalled his visit to Japan earlier this year besides their meetings in Myanmar and Australia in November.

He reiterated his belief in the enormous potential of India-Japan relations and reaffirmed his strong commitment to work with Prime Minister Modi to further strengthen the strategic partnership, the statement said.

The two leaders briefly reviewed progress in bilateral relations since their September Summit in Japan and resolved to continue expanding cooperation in every area of the broad-based relations between their countries.
