AGARTALA: Prime Minister Narendra Modi today congratulated the people of Tripura on the 43rd foundation day of the state.

In a message, Modi said the memory of his visit to the state last year was very sweet and the hospitality and reception would remain alive in his mind always.

To mark the occasion, Tripura Governor P Balakrishna Acharya inaugurated the five-day-long celebration programme and appealed to the people to work hard for building a prosperous state.

The Governor also inaugurated an exhibition which displayed the development of Tripura since 1972, the year the state attained the status of a full-fledged state.

The princely states of Tripura and Manipur merged with India in October 1949 as Union Territory and were elevated to the status of full-fledged states on Jan 21, 1972.
