PM moots soccer event: India vs Brazil & Russia
UFA: On a day when India slipped 15 positions in the FIFA world rankings, Prime Minister Narendra Modi suggested the setting up of a BRICS sports council where football meets could be organised. "India could host a football event next year," Modi said in the Russian town of Ufa on Thursday.

Perhaps, the PM could have chosen another sport to bolster BRICS ties keeping Indian interests in mind. Here's why. The latest Fifa rankings, released on Thursday, shows five-time world champion Brazil in the sixth spot. Russia, also host to the next World Cup in 2018, at 28, while South Africa is at 70 and China at 77. And India has dropped from 141 to 156. So this tournament could be the mother of all mis-matches.
