NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to review the Crime and Criminal Tracking Network & Systems ( CCTNS) with the officials of home ministry and state governments on August 26.

The meeting has been called to check the progress made by states in implementing the project under the PRAGATI (Pro-Active Governance and Timely Implementation) platform launched by the PM in March, officials said. Modi will interact with the police stations and district headquarters connected through teleconferencing, they said.

The meeting comes at a time when the ministry is planning to present its case again to the union cabinet for restoration of funds for the scheme. In April, the finance ministry had transferred the scheme to the states, which are expected to fund it from their increased share of central taxes. However, the home ministry in July lobbied for restoration of funds, unsuccessfully so, and was directed instead to evaluate the progress of CCTNS. Home secretary LC Goyal will bring synergy between the Centre and the states and showcase the police stations which have adopted smart policing and Digital India initiative under the CCTNS project. State government officers handling CCTNS project, director generals of prison of states and professionals from IT companies are also expected to be part of this exercise, officials said.
