Prime Minister Narendra Modi will head the committee, which includes a wide range of eminent personalities, political leaders, governors, chief ministers, spiritual leaders, educationists, industrialists and cultural icons.
It will decide about the policies, programmes and events related to the centenary celebrations and their approvals. It will also keep a track of the execution and decide on the timeline of events which could be followed by different states. The committee will also recommend to the Union and state governments the activities and programmes keeping in mind the legacy of Vajpayee, which the respective governments can plan as per schedule.
The 128-member committee includes former Presidents Pratibha Patil and Ram Nath Kovind, former PM HD Deve Gowda, Lok Sabha speaker Om Birla, Union ministers Rajnath Singh, Amit Shah, Nirmala Sitharaman and S Jaishankar, and CMs such as Nitish Kumar, Yogi Adityanath, Mamata Banerjee, Siddaramaiah and Hemant Soren.
