NEW DELHI: Reaching out to tribals, Prime Minister Narendra Modi today emphasised the need to improve the outcomes of various interventions and enhanced convergence of the several schemes for their welfare.

"India will prosper when our tribal communities prosper. Today I chaired a meeting on progress relating to schemes for tribal welfare.

"Impact of Jan Dhan Yojana & recently launched social security schemes on tribal communities were also discussed," the Prime Minister said on Twitter.

Incidentally, the meeting happened on the day when Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi launched a hard-hitting attack on the NDA government on tribal issues from mining hamlet Korba in the community dominated BJP-ruled Chhattisgarh.

Chairing a high-level review meeting on tribal welfare initiatives, including Vanbandhu Kalyan Yojana, the Prime Minister said that the various wings of the Centre and state governments should work in tandem to meet the targeted objectives within the specified timeframe, an official release said.

Emphasising the need to improve the outcomes of various interventions for tribal welfare, he called for enhanced convergence of the several schemes aimed at their welfare.

The Prime Minister also enquired about the progress in the efforts to map the sickle cell anaemia among the tribal population and sought to know the impact of the 'Jan Dhan Yojana' and other recently-launched social security schemes on tribal communities.

Modi also chose the occasion to repeat his suggestion about exploring the possibility of a Tribal Cultural Troupe Carnival, the release added.

It said the Prime Minister called for enhanced convergence among various schemes aimed at welfare of tribal communities across the country.

In January this year, the Prime Minister had asked the various ministries to work in coordination to develop strategies for stopping the spread of Left-Wing Extremism.
