Congress on Tuesday alleged "a big diplomatic bungle" behind Prime Minister Narendra Modi not making it to the G7 Summit in Canada.

Pointing out that Modi and his predecessor Manmohan Singh have been attending the G7 summits during their respective tenures in office until now, Congress communication in-charge Jairam Ramesh said, "But now, for the first time in six years, Vishwaguru will not be in attendance at the Canada summit. Whatever spin may be given, the fact remains that this is yet another big diplomatic bungle - after the blunder of allowing the US to overturn decades of Indian foreign policy by mediating between India and Pakistan and allowing American authorities to call for continued talks at a 'neutral site'."

Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Sanjay Raut said not getting an invite to G7 was an insult to India and demanded an explanation from the external affairs minister. "You should ask the prime minister and his supporters to give an answer. We felt bad and considered this an insult to India that our country has not been invited. (EAM) Jaishankar ji should give an answer," Raut said at a presser here.
